This Omeka site is being developed by students and instructors as part of a course at the University of Colorado at Boulder -- History 4546: Popular Culture in Modern America, Fall 2014-Spring 2015 taught by Dr. Phoebe Young. The collections and exhibits here represent historical interpretations of and perspectives on contemporary culture.
Support for this project kindly provided by the History Department, CU Libraries, and ASSETT (Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology) at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
As a structured space for learning and student production of historical knowledge and interpretations about popular cultural representations, the included materials on the site fall under fair use practices for exhibits and instruction as outlined in Association of Research Libraries, Center for Social Media, School of Communication, American University, and Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property, Washington College of Law, American University, Code of Best Practices: Fair Use for Academic and Research Libraries, January 2012.
The designation of fair use pertains to the use of the materials displayed in the collections and exhibits for the purposes of this site only; downloading, copying, or re-displying files from this site may not fall under fair use and is not recommended, especially for items that are believed to be under copyright. Information about the rights holders, to the best of our knowledge, is included in the metadata with each item. If you would like to use an item for reproduction or re-display, consult the Rights field as you begin considering whether you would need to contact the rights holder. Note that this information -- whether an item is public domain, has a specific rights holder, or carries a creative commons license -- is not a legal determination but rather our understanding of the copyright status at the time the item was added to the class collection. If you are the rights holder for any item showcased here and wish to have it removed from public view, please email the course instructor, Dr. Phoebe Young, firstname.lastname@example.org.
